The Virginia Tech Hokies will face the NC State Wolfpack in Raleigh on Saturday night. Virginia Tech enters off a dominant 38–6 win over FCS opponent Wofford, its first win of the 2025 season. NC State will look to bounce back from a 45–33 loss at Duke, its first loss of the 2025 campaign. Before kickoff from Raleigh, continue reading to get my Virginia Tech vs NC State prediction for Saturday's game.
Spread | Moneyline | Total |
|---|---|---|
NC State –9.5 | NC State –360 / Virginia Tech +280 | 57.5 |
Virginia Tech is in the midst of a midseason coaching shakeup, with Philip Montgomery now at the helm. Virginia Tech got their first win of the season in their last outing against Wofford. But they are 0-3 against FBS opponents and lost all three of those games by double-digits. The Hokies’ secondary and offensive line remain suspect and NC State’s receivers pose a serious threat if they can get separation.
NC State is off to a 3-1 start but lost for the first time this season to Duke last week. The Wolfpack are 1-1 in ACC play and will try to get back above .500 in conference play with a victory in this contest. For that to happen, they will need to be better on defense after allowing 45 points to the Blue Devils in last week's loss.
Virginia Tech’s Kyron Drones delivered his best performance of 2025 in the Wofford game, completing 27 of 32 for 307 yards and two passing touchdowns, plus two rushing scores. That effort may restore some confidence, but his protection and his own individual execution will be tested against better NC State team.
NC State's C.J. Bailey has thrown for 1,083 yards and seven touchdowns so far this season. But he had a rough outing against Duke, tossing three interceptions. His dual-threat ability and connection with receivers like Terrell Anderson and Wesley Grimes make him dangerous. But turnovers could be his undoing again if he isn't more careful with the football.
Score Projection: NC State 34 – Virginia Tech 24
Win Probability: NC State 73%, Virginia Tech 27%
This game looks to me like a straightforward victory for NC State. Virginia Tech showed signs of life in its blowout win over Wofford, but that does little to relieve concerns about their weaknesses up front. NC State’s offense has the tools to exploit mismatches in the secondary, and unless Bailey turns in an error-prone day, the Wolfpack should control this one throughout. I expect a competitive first half before the Wolfpack pulls away in the second half.
