Vitor Petrino is a former light heavyweight prospect and has transitioned to the heavyweight division with some early success. After a submission victory over Austen Lane in his heavyweight debut, Petrino aims to continue his momentum against Petersen. Petrino's recent fights have been full of fireworks recently, win or lose. His last three fights have been decided inside the distance, with five of his last six fights ending via knockout or submission.
Thomas Petersen has a 2-2 record in the UFC since joining the promotion in 2024. His last victory was a unanimous decision over Don'Tale Mayes in May of 2025. Petersen's strengths lie in his striking volume, as he lands over one significant strike per minute more than Petrino entering this matchup. But Petersen was knocked out by Shamil Gaziev in February and will have to avoid a similar fate against a Brazilian knockout artist on Saturday.
The betting odds for this fight suggest an expectation that Petrino will win in the second half of this fight or by decision. That goes against the recent tendency of Petrino's fights to end early. But Petersen has shown the ability to last deep into fights and that is certainly a possibility here as well.
I am expecting a knockout in this fight, with the only question being who is going to get it. In my opinion, it is going to be Petrino who scores the victory by KO here. The Brazilian is the more experienced fighter in UFC and has shown one-punch knockout power during his time in the promotion. I'll take Petrino to win by knockout here to the delight of the crowd in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night.
