The Los Angeles Chargers will face the Tennessee Titans in Week 9 of the NFL season on Sunday afternoon. The Chargers are playing well and have a rest advantage going into this game after playing on Thursday Night Football in Week 8. The Chargers were reinvigorated in their last outing, powering past the Vikings 37-10. They enjoyed both an explosive passing attack and an improved ground game. The Chargers will also have some extra rest after that game, as they have 10 days between games, while the Titans only have the standard week to prepare.
The Titans continue to stumble at 1-7 on the season. They have major deficiencies on both sides of the ball and have looked like the worst team in the NFL for long stretches of the year so far. They will try to pull off an upset at home here, but they are 0-3 on their home turf and haven't been keeping games particularly close either at home or on the road.
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is performing at a high level of efficiency, with the team ranking near the top of the league in third-down conversion rate (68%) and yards per play. Herbert has thrown for 2,140 yards, 16 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. This offensive efficiency positions them well to take advantage of a Titans defense that has yielded big plays and failed to finish drives.
Rookie quarterback Cam Ward has not found his rhythm for the Titans yet. He has thrown for 1,615 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions. Ward could use more help from his running game to have more success, but he also needs to be better individually for the Titans to be more competitive going forward.
Score Projection: Chargers 27 – Titans 14
Win Probability: Chargers 79%, Titans 21%
The Chargers should have no problem defeating the Titans in this Week 9 contest. But instead of laying over a touchdown with the Chargers on the road, I recommend betting the under instead. We should see the Titans' offense continue to struggle here. But taking the under protects against an off day from the Chargers offensively as well.
