Seattle arrives with a 12-3 record and control of the NFC West, while the 8-7 Panthers lead the NFC South and are fighting for a postseason berth and possibly their first home playoff game in years. This game features the NFC’s top seed in Seattle, currently perched at 12-3, against a Panthers squad that has built an 8-7 record and currently leads the NFC South. Seattle’s recent dramatic comeback in overtime against the Los Angeles Rams not only kept their division hopes alive but made them look like a clutch team down the stretch. They may need some more late heroics to get a win here as well.
Carolina enters this contest with a real chance at making the playoffs. A win in the final week of the regular season will lock up the division title for the Panthers no matter what happens this week. But the Panthers will try to stay sharp and build more confidence going into that game with a victory in this contest. After a win in a close game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, the Panthers' confidence is soaring entering Week 17.
For Seattle, Sam Darnold has been a reliable presence, completing over 67% of his passes with 3,703 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions on the season. He remains a significant part of Seattle’s offensive success, particularly when paired with standout receiver Jaxon Smith‑Njigba, who has been among the league’s more productive wideouts.
Carolina's playoff hopes rest on the shoulders of quarterback Bryce Young, who has thrown for more than 2,600 yards with 21 touchdown passes and 9 interceptions. While Young has shown he can engineer offense, Carolina’s production pales in comparison to Seattle’s efficiency and explosive plays.
