The Buffalo Sabres (4-4-2) will travel to TD Garden to face the Boston Bruins (5-7-0) on Thursday night. Oddsmakers have set this game as a pick 'em, as both teams have struggled to find consistent play in the early portion of the year. Here, I take a closer look at this Eastern Conference matchup on the ice and give you my Sabres vs Bruins prediction.
The Bruins enter this one after a 5-2 triumph over the New York Islanders. They erased a 2-0 first-period deficit and poured in five unanswered goals to take that game. That win gave Boston two wins in their last three games. The Bruins sit at 5-7-0. Their offense is respectable, averaging 3.25 goals per game, but their defence has been leaky with 3.67 goals allowed per game.
The Sabres are 4-4-2 and have had a tendency to drop leads late. They average 3.00 goals per game, allow 3.10, and have a very good penalty kill at 91.2%. Buffalo has dropped two straight games in overtime against the Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Bruins are searching for consistency in net after the start to their season. Both of their goaltenders this year have GAAs over 3.00 and they will need those numbers to come down for the Bruins to avoid a loss at home here. Buffalo's Alex Lyon has a 2.77 GAA and a .919 save percentage. He could give the Sabres a slight advantage in net.

The Bruins look like they may be starting to turn things around with two wins in their last three games. They are on home ice here, which should help them against a Sabres team that has yet to collect a victory away from Buffalo. I'll take the Bruins to win this contest and to get their second win in two tries against the Sabres this season.
