The Calgary Flames will head East to face the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night. Ottawa had a three-game winning streak snapped in their last game, while the Flames are off to a dismal start and desperate to turn things around themselves. The Senators are 5‑5‑1 on the season and arriving with confidence after winning three of their last four games. They did lose 7-3 to the Chicago Blackhawks in their most recent game on Tuesday, allowing a hat trick to Chicago's Connor Bedard. But Ottawa has a great chance to shake off that loss and get a victory here.
The Flames sit at 2‑8‑1 and just ended an eight‑game losing streak with a 5‑1 win over the New York Rangers on Sunday. But they followed that up with a 4‑3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Their road record remains concerning. They are 1-5 on the road this year and 0‑5 in their last five away games.
The Senators’ netminding has been a weak point this year. Both of their goaltenders have GAAs of 3.44 or higher coming into this contest and they will try to repair those numbers in a game like this one. Dustin Wolf of the Flames also has a 3.44 GAA and hasn't been any better for his team.
Drake Batherson and Tim Stützle both had huge nights against Boston, with two goals and an assist each for the Senators. Shane Pinto is also a threat in the attacking zone, leading Ottawa with eight goals this sesason. Calgary’s spark has come from Blake Coleman, who scored twice in the Flames’ 5‑1 win over New York. He has a team-best five goals this season.

The Senators have the upper hand in terms of recent performance, roster quality, and home‑ice advantage. The Flames have struggled on the road throughout the early portions of this season and I expect that to continue in this game as well. I'll take the Senators to win at home on the moneyline over a Flames team that should drop to 1-6-0 away from Scotiabank Saddledome.
