The Minnesota Wild will travel north to take on the New York Islanders in NHL action on Friday night. The Wild are coming off a loss on the road on Thursday night and will travel up the East Coast to take on the Isles. The Islanders come into this game with a 6‑5‑2 record on the season. They’ve won four of their first seven home games this season. But they did lose at home to the Boston Bruins in a shootout in their last game on Tuesday and will try to bounce back from that result here.
The Wild are 5‑6‑3 so far this season. They rank in the lower tier of the league for with 2.80 goals per game and 3.67 goals allowed per game. They are also playing on the second night of a back-to-back here after losing 4-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night.
New York's Ilya Sorokin is the expected starter in goal. Sorokin is 3-4-2 this season with a 3.33 GAA and a .879 save percentage. The Wild could go back to Filip Gustavsson in net after he played last night and let in four goals against the Hurricanes. They could also go to their backup in his place to avoid stretching Gustavsson too thin early in the season.
Bo Horvat is leading the Islanders' attack with 9 goals and 6 assists (15 points) so far. Simon Holmström has also taken on a bigger role as a producer for the Islanders. He has averaged a point per game in his last seven games and is making an impact on the penalty kill as well. I think that the Islanders will win and cover the puckline as a favorite on Friday night in New York. The Wild are skating on the second leg of a back-to-back here and that is not likely to help their chances of getting a win on the road. Look for New York to win by two goals or more at home.
