The New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings will face off at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Friday night. Both of these teams come off losses in their most recent games. But both teams are playing well coming into Friday night's matchup nonetheless. Below is my breakdown of this Eastern Conference matchup in the NHL, including my Rangers vs Red Wings prediction.
Detroit enters this game with a 9‑5‑0 record, including a 5‑1 home mark. They are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights and will be motivated to bounce back. The Rangers are 6‑6‑2 and sit at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. They too suffered a shutout in their most recent outing, losing 3-0 to the Carolina Hurricanes. But the Rangers have won three of their last four games and will look to improve on their 6-1-1 road record with a win here.
The Rangers feature Igor Shesterkin in goal. Shesterkin is 4‑5‑2 with a 2.26 GAA and .915 save percentage. Detroit has relied on Cam Talbot (5‑1‑0, 2.76 GAA, .897 SV %) and John Gibson (4‑4‑0, 3.03 GAA, .890 SV %) in net. I'm expecting a tight and low-scoring game from Detroit between these two teams. Neither of these teams is known for lighting up the scoreboard and we should see them try to simply grind each other down in this game. Instead of taking a side, I'm going with the under as my best bet for what should be an interesting game from Detroit on Friday night.
