Both of these teams are above .500 on the season and will look to continue their strong starts at the expense of one another. The Mammoth are 9–4–0 this season and averaging roughly 3.38 goals per game while allowing just 2.69 per game. They got a 2-1 overtime win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night and will try to deliver on the second night of a back-to-back here. The Maple Leafs are 7–5–1 and have won two games in a row. They most recently overcame a 3-0 deficit with a four-goal third period to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The primary crease occupant for Toronto has been Anthony Stolarz. He has a 3.12 GAA and a .896 save percentage. Toronto has allowed 3.62 goals per game as a team and Stolarz's struggles have been a big part of that. We could see Vitek Vanecek in goal for Utah tonight after Karel Vejmelka played last night in Buffalo.
Utah center Nick Schmaltz leads the team with 8 goals and 10 assists for a total of 18 points. Logan Cooley has 8 goals in his first 11 games and recently signed a long-term extension for the Mammoth. I am going to take the Maple Leafs to win and cover the puckline at home in this contest. Under equal rest, this game would be more evenly matched. But with the Mammoth playing on the second leg of a road back-to-back, I expect some struggles defensively from Utah compared to their normal standards.
