The upcoming clash between the Duke Blue Devils and the UConn Huskies on Saturday is a battle of two basketball schools on the football field. Duke arrives at 5‑3 after a wild 46‑45 win over the Clemson Tigers and are chasing bowl eligibility. UConn stands at 6‑3 and is fighting for back‑to‑back winning seasons for the first time in over a decade. Duke’s recent 46‑45 win over Clemson shows they can light up the scoreboard but also that their defense is vulnerable to getting lit up. UConn rebounded from a double overtime loss to Rice with a 38‑19 win over UAB last time out.
The fact that both teams have one of the nation’s better passing offenses means this game has shootout potential. Duke is 43rd in SP+ rankings, while UConn’s sits in 57th. That indicates a slight edge for Duke in overall efficiency, but home field and UConn's potent offense could make this a tight game.
This game features two gifted passers in Duke's Darian Mensah and UConn's Joe Fagnano. Both have eclipsed 2,500 yards passing so far this season and both have over 20 touchdowns through the air on the season. Mensah has two interceptions and Fagnano has yet to throw one. This should be a very good matchup if you like high-powered passing attacks.
Score Projection: Duke 38 – UConn 31
Win Probability: Duke 72% | UConn 28%
Duke should be able to get the win against UConn on Saturday. But my best bet for this contest is for the over to cash instead. We should see both teams move the ball through the air early and often in this matchup and I'll take the over while cheering for Mensah and Fagnano to throw it all over the field with little resistance.
