USC enters the game as a ranked team looking to close its season with a 10th win, while TCU hopes to finish strong after an 8-4 regular season. USC finished its regular season with a 9-3 record marked by strong performances in conference play and attention on quarterback Jayden Maiava’s standout statistical year. The Trojans had no chance of making the Big Ten title game, as Indiana and Ohio State both had undefeated regular seasons. But the Trojans could close out a very good year with a win here.
TCU’s 8-4 regular season saw them win their final two regular-season games to earn a more high-profile bowl bid. But the Horned Frogs have some major questions to answer offensively if they want to win this game. Offensive coordinator Kendal Briles is leaving for South Carolina, while quarterback Josh Hoover has opted out to hit the transfer portal. The Horned Frogs will need others to step up to fill those voids.
Coaches Lincoln Riley of USC and Sonny Dykes of TCU carry some personal history into this encounter, having both worked at Texas Tech early in their careers. There is respect between the two coaches, but only one of them can leave San Antonio with the win here.
USC’s Jayden Maiava leads the Trojans’ offense after completing an impressive season with over 3,400 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and a high quarterback rating that kept USC’s offense among the nation’s best. His ability to orchestrate scoring drives could give USC a decisive edge against a TCU team with offensive questions to overcome.
On the TCU side, starter Josh Hoover has opted out of the bowl game, forcing TCU to rely on backup Ken Seals or freshman Adam Schobel. This shift impacts TCU’s offense in a big way and introduces uncertainty that bettors must evaluate before locking in their bets.

I will lay the points with USC in the Alamo Bowl on Tuesday night. TCU would have a great chance to beat the Trojans at full strength. But a change in offensive coordinator and starting quarterback for this game should limit what TCU can do when in possession of the football. Lincoln Riley should get the better of Sonny Dykes in this one.
