The Philadelphia Eagles will visit the Washington Commanders on Saturday night in a Week 16 NFC East matchup that is important for Philadelphia’s playoff positioning. The biggest narrative heading into this NFC East matchup is the quarterback change for Washington. Jayden Daniels, who has battled a slew of injuries this season, has been shut down for the remainder of 2025 with a re-injured elbow. Marcus Mariota will start under center for the Commanders, a move that has contributed to the Eagles being favored by six points on the road.
Washington (4–10) is already out of playoff contention, while the Eagles (9–5) are on the cusp of clinching the division title. They are also playing for more favorable playoff seeding, as they are just a couple of games back of first place in the NFC standings with a few weeks remaining in the regular season.
Philadelphia’s offense has stayed productive despite some early issues for them in the passing game. Meanwhile, Washington’s scoring has been far worse this year than it was last year thanks to the lack of Daniels' presence under center.
Jalen Hurts continues to be the focal point of the Eagles’ offense, making plays with both his arm and legs. Hurts has thrown for just under 3,000 yards with 22 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, while also contributing on the ground. As long as he can avoid turning the ball over, the Eagles should be in a good position to win this game.
For Washington, Marcus Mariota steps in as the starter after Daniels’ season-ending elbow injury. Mariota’s recent outing showed he can manage games. He threw for over 200 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders’ Week 15 victory over the Giants. But his inconsistency and disappointing touchdown-to-interception ratio make it hard to have a lot of faith in him to deliver in this contest.
Score Projection: Eagles 27 – Commanders 17
Win Probability: Eagles 70%, Commanders 30%
This would be a great chance for revenge for the Commanders if Jayden Daniels was healthy. But he isn't healthy, and the Commanders' offense has been a mess without him available. I'll lay the points with the Eagles, who should help their chances of moving up in the NFC standings with a victory.
